There are benefits to spending most of my days at home. I am lucky in many ways.
Music envelops most of my life. So when I have treatment days, injection days, days and nights of unending sickness, I have emotional and mental retreats in music.
Although I cannot play for hours on end, even on my worst days I can play ONE piece of music a day. Today I chose a grade 8 piece that I really love. Full of arpeggiation in constantly changing keys and full of luscious sixteenth note combinations with some confusing finger positions - it makes it beautiful and silky and challenging at the same time. I love pieces that are kind of obviously beautiful with flowing direction, but difficult to master. Also, this piece specifically does NOT use the sustain pedal, but it sounds like it does. I have this unhealthy instinct to automatically use the pedal in each piece, so I am looking forward to learning more pieces that do NOT use the sustain pedal. Get me out of the habit of relying on the pedal and focus more on how my fingers can move to imitate that sound effect.
Then there comes the relaxing spa-like bubble bath. I can listen to my Spa Music playlist while also quietly going through other playlists and adding some of my favourite tunes to our potential Wedding playlist!!
When many parts of my physical body prevent me from being active and going for walks or doing housework, my retreat has always been, and will hopefully always be, music.
I love #MyMusicalLife
