I have posted several times over the last few years about having to turn down or ignore potential opportunities.
There was that job opening for a singer on a cruiseline (working with Tim Rice on top of it) that I would have loved to apply and/or auditon for.
There have been several years where I was offered a position teaching singing/piano/theory lessons that I have had to turn down.
There have been other auditon opportunities for a singer required for a commercial spot, a local tv show, and there are always openings for vocalists (lead or background) in local bands. I have had to ignore all of those opportunities because I am simply not healthy enough to fulfill what the requirements would be.
Most recently, there was a call to audition for an opera house to perform in the chorus. This was an even stronger pull. I was desperate to audition. I even tried to fill two days with appointments and errands to see if there was any chance that I could manage performing. That had a horrible result on my health - and I had my answer.
With all of these opportunities I have had to watch pass by, I have had a new opportunity that I was able to say YES to!!!
My health and abilities right now allow for me to be able to play and sing background music. Every few months I can handle about two hours of singing in this kind of atmosphere, and these events are most frequently fundraisers and charity events for some of the illnesses I suffer from.
Recently, I have been asked to provide this kind of background music - at an ART GALLERY!!!
Ever since I have been able to provide background music, I have been dreeeeeamig of being able to sing at an art gallery, art installation, or really any artistic display.
This summer I will be doing this on two separate days and I am beyond excited. I am honoured. I am elated.
I finally get to say yes to a dream I have had.
I love My Musical Life.
