The last couple days have been verrrry long.
Not only is it treatment day today and medication pickup day, but I have just over a week to prepare to sing again at East Village Junction.
I have been absolutely determined to learn some recent country tunes and to organize a binder/set-list tailored for these country music opportunities.
Then, of course, since I was taking a ton if music from my already established binders, I wanted these songs available in my main binders as well as a specifically country binder. This meant photocopying ... a lot of photocopying. (Luckily Mom was there to help with that tedious task).
Some of the songs, however, had already been photocopied for other themed binders, and that makes the writing more and more faint... so I wound up re-writing out at least 20 songs.
While I was already doing that, I decided to finally clean up my main binders. (Why not add one more task to my plate?).
I went through each and every song, finding ones I have not sung in years, ones I have never felt confident about singing, and tunes that have lost their appeal - and removed them entirely from my active repertoire.
So I cleaned up two massive binders, photocopied countless pages, learned 12 NEW songs for next weekend, and I practiced all of them, 80% of them twice.
I am thrilled with what I was able to get done and I am confident with most of the music, I simply have to practice the new ones closer to the date to refresh my memory a little bit.
What I would love to do, on a day when I am not just background music but completely performing, is to have several printed lists of every single song in my main binders.
I would bring those and encourage people to peruse the list and even make requests for any of the songs contained in my binders (similar to a karaoke list)!
I LOVE it when I have an opportunity for the audience to engage and be involved in the music itself... and allowing requests and offering a list would just add a little excitement to the show.
My throat is suffering now (so are my shoulder blades), but I am SO SO excited and can't wait!!
Loving the 12 new country tunes too.
Love love love My Musical Life!!
