I do my best to do SOMETHING musical every single day.
Lately I have had the Royal Conservatory book for grades 7/8 sitting open on the piano, practicing certain pieces and sightreading others. Just a little bit each day is still making progress.
Now that I have booked a date for this year's home concert, I have already started working on some new tunes. I have listened to a few, I've taken a look at the list of requests I have written down, and I wrote out the lyrics and chords to about 6 new songs. I also managed to transpose 2 of them into a more appropriate key for my own voice, and after about half an hour of practice, I have a couple of tunes memorized.
The plans coming up include new home videos to be posted on youtube, singing for a friend's wedding reception, the holiday home concert fundraiser, and then the annual Fun Money Casino Night in March of 2019 to raise more funds for Crohn's Colitis Canada.
Did I mention that I am trying to learn a couple of East Coast or Irish music along with some new tunes?
Super exciting.
Yes, Galway Girl is among those new songs. (Although no one will ever surpass Gerard Butler's rendition of that song. Ever.)
One thing that I absolutely love about being a musician is that you can work your entire life at it and you will always have something new to learn. There are always methods of improvement. So as long as I can overcome stagnation and continue to learn new pieces, new positioning, new and better ways to practice and perform, then that is what being a musician is all about and I consider that success.
I love My Musical Life!
