Our household loves Hallowe'en. We watch nonstop horror movies for days or even weeks in advance, I play creepy piano tunes late at night, we figure out costumes, and this year we even had some people over.
Most importantly - this year was FINALLY the year I decided to go as Ariel.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to go as Ariel for Hallowe'en. Ariel and Belle are the two princesses I connected with the most, and I mean come on, a water-dwelling, strong, stubborn, and loving SINGER. That has me written all over it.
I wanted to do it justice though.
Now, as much as I would have loved to get a costume that matches Ariel perfectly, I am not spending that kind of money on a mermaid fin/skin, or on the exorbitantly priced costumes you can find.
I did buy some mermaid leggings, though, and paired it with a purple top. I had a few more options (mermaid-silhouette skirts, purple bras, etc...), but I wasn't comfortable exposing my belly this year (especially so recently after having my gallbladder removed)... so I went with something a touch more modest.
The most important part of my 'costume' was my hair and, of course, singing an a cappella rendition of Part of Your World.
Along with this video, I am also including in this post links to my usual monthly youtube videos, which include:
Yellow by Coldplay
All Your Life by The Band Perry
Now, for Hallowe'en, I can't just go as a favourite Disney character. It's a spooky holiday! So I tried to go with more of an injured/dying mermaid - with cuts and rips that expose fish scales underneath the human skin. Something a little more in line with the holiday ;).
Here are a couple photos.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to really take my time and perfect the makeup, but it's not bad.
Happy Hallowe'en and stay safe out there!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: You make a fantastic Ariel, in voice, looks and attitude.
ReplyDeleteI love that you went with this motif (both in its original and "scary" forms) for Hallowe'en this year and I hope someday you will indeed have your own tail. I've been lucky enough to find mermaid and merman tails for decent prices (even as low as $200-250 each) so don't give up, they're out there!
In the meantime, thank you just for being YOU, Karissa!
