The Mocking Shadows

We had the privilege of seeing The Mocking Shadows last night at the Ironwood.

I was lucky enough to see them play several years ago when they performed for the Crohn's and Colitis Gala, and I loved their music back then.
Last night, though, was brought to an entirely new level.

If you are ever wondering what a stage performance should look like, sound like, and feel like, The Mocking Shadows are a perfect example. Each musician is incredibly talented on his/her own, but together they have the musical chemistry that we all strive for. Nothing but smiles on stage and all very clearly having a blast together. You would never know if there is any tension between the musicians during rehearsals.
Watching an entire stage filled with that much musical talent and musical enjoyment was amazing.
One of my favourite moments was actually when Jory (the lead singer and bassist) was belting a tune and the two women were acting as background singers (soul style). The women were in sync every line. Then, at one moment, instead of dropping down to finish the line, they both went an octave higher - then looked at one another and laughed. This was such a small moment; something unplanned.
The reason I loved this so much is because having the same musical instincts as bandmates, on the fly, is pretty rare and pretty special.

This band has soul, charisma, chemistry, stage presence, covers and originals, powerful voices all around, and the whole night was a ton of fun. The cherry on the cake is listening to trumpet, trombone, sax, and keyboard all beautifully working together in that old-time motown style.

Safe to say, this is a local band that I really love. Check them out! Click here to see their Facebook page.
