Next Sunday I'll be performing live again, but it will be more easy-listening, background music. Maybe even some instrumentals!
It's kind of funny how a pandemic can bring the musical community together. With my health the way that it is, going out to perform and networking with various musicians was almost entirely unfeasible. It was a rare occasion that I actually got to share music with other groups and musicians. Even going to see a live performance was a rarity, let alone actually talking to and hanging out with other musicians.
I have felt more connected to the musical community within the last two weeks than in the past several years, all because of a streaming platform that was originally created for gamers.
If you're a fellow musician - from anywhere- or even just someone who likes to be involved in live musical entertainment, I implore you to join the free streaming service Twitch. It's a whole lot of fun with great opportunities to meet some wonderfully supportive people! And it has allowed me to share my music more often, which is a huge bonus.
I am still VERY new on the platform, but I have a few favourite streaming channels already, including:
An extraordinarily talented musician - masterfully playing the piano, guitar, and even drums: often drumming, playing piano, and singing all at the same time. It's almost sickening how talented this man is.
If you're from around the area, you'll already be familiar with this rock band. These guys are SO much fun and play covers of some of the best that rock has to offer. Watching their stream is always a constant party, and their Saturday nights are hella fun.
A dueling piano stream that is musically wonderful, hilariously chaotic, with cats that often join in in the fun. This stream cheers me up every single time. Fantastic musicians who met on a cruise ship!
A classical pianist who often allows her viewers to join in while she is rehearsing. Phenomenal piano stream.
A couple of DJs spinning tunes for hours - making it feel like you're actually at the bar with all of your friends (gawd I miss those days). Grab a cocktail and join in on their stream on Friday nights! (And Friday at noon hour).
This is another piano bar musician with an adult-themed music stream. Incredibly funny, always fun, with some of the most outrageous parodies out there. Not to mention a powerful set of vocal cords.
There are MANY, MANY others, and an entire list of musician-supporting users who are beloved in the community. It makes every stream feel like a social gathering. And I am loving every minute of it.
