All Things Music

Today is the last Friday of the month, which means new music is up on youtube!

My cover of Denim on Denim by Tebey is available for viewing. Make sure to click 'like' if you enjoyed it and 'subscribe' if you want to see more requested covers!

Along with the new videos, I was practicing some calligraphy today! Nothing major, just prepping and trying out new nibs! My friend and I went to a nearby Art Supply store the other day. How cow was I overwhelmed! I have just started trying to paint and use calligraphy, so the multitude of aisles and various choices for products was far beyond my scope of knowledge. Luckily, it was fairly slow in the store, and there were some lovely obliging people working there, who were happy to share their knowledge and make some recommendations.
I was going there looking for only a few specific things: watercolor paper heavy enough to be used as bookmarks, a glass calligraphy pen, some new nibs and more knowledge about using them, some dip-ink, and some Tombow dual-brush markers for my regular bookmark doodling.

I found out some information about nibs (like the pointed tip vs bent tips, round tips vs straight edge tips, which nibs are used in fountain pens and which are used in specific calligraphy pens). He showed us about 5 boxes full of nibs - and that is where I found my MUSIC nib! It is for writing music and has a five-pronged straight edge tip to create the staff in music. I was so excited I could barely contain myself!

As an aside, when I went to pick up some calligraphy ink, I was distracted by all of the brands, colours, and scents. Yes, scents. There is scented ink that you can purchase for calligraphy. So, yeah, those hand-written wedding invitations can actually smell like lavender, or cherries, or marigolds, or sweet peas, if you so wish. I steeled my nerves and went with basic colours - no scents... at least not this time.

Also, did you know that for nibs to work properly you need to burn the manufacturer's oil off of them first? I had no idea! Or, apparently, you can stick the nibs inside a potato for 10-15 mins. You read that right. A potato. Then the oil is removed and the ink will stick properly to the nib.

I am learning so much!!

I am most excited to write out music as an art piece using my music nib and my blown glass calligraphy pen to create sheet music and florals and all things beautiful!

I love My Musical (and artistic) life!
I also love that art supply store.
