I had such an amazing time and I loved each and every moment of OLP.
Dear Rouge and I Mother Earth opened - neither of which I had heard much about. Every band was Canadian, which I found incredible, and each had their own unique style to their music.
Dear Rouge's lead singer has an impressive range and control to her vocals, with a confident stage presence. Add in the gorgeous sparkly pants she was wearing (which I want), and they put on a great show!
I Mother Earth is obviously a favourite to SO many people, incredibly talented instrumentalists, and if you judge by the smile on the bassist's face all night, they truly enjoy making music.
To be honest, I Mother Earth is one band I just cannot seem to get into. I had a tough time understanding the words, the musical direction, and could not seem to let myself fall into the music. It is very rare for me to dislike a musical performance by such talented musicians, however I simply could not get into it. That's okay though! I still have an acute appreciation for their talents - each member played multiple instruments, with layers and depth to each and every song - it simply is not my style.
Then Our Lady Peace comes out.
Not knowing exactly what to expect, I was beyond impressed. Polished, soulful, poetic, and the lead singer sounds even better than he did way back when I was enjoying this band in junior high and high school. His voice has opened up and has more depth to it - while, of course, staying true to their original sound. I also love their newer songs - especially Drop Me In The Water and Stop Making Stupid People Famous.
OLP have always been master lyricists, with a depth in their writing that I find underrated. To accomplish that while also being insanely talented AND have a showcase reel of hit, catchy, popular tunes is a feat. I am even more impressed by their work after seeing them perform live - right in front of me!!
Thank you OLP for putting on such a phenomenal performance, for always giving everything into your lyrics and melodies, and for getting me through some of my most difficult moments in life. You are both inspiring and intimidating - I am grateful to have seen you live!
Above all, I love My Musical Life!
