Today I had an interesting 'opportunity'. A few things are going on with family and I had to be at a hospital last night and half of today.
While I was there visiting, I noticed a very nice baby grand piano sitting in the wide open atrium. It was covered, of course, and there was a sign on it stating that only registered volunteers were to play the piano.
I took a quick hobble to Volunteer Services and just asked the question - with family in the hospital, could I play 5 or 6 songs for family after a procedure. To my surprise, it was a very quick and uncomplicated yes! Often you have to go through volunteer training or fill out a ton of forms, but for this circumstance they were happy to have me play.
So I took a notebook, asked my fiancé for a couple screenshots of the key I play the songs in, wrote them out, and played for about 15 minutes. It was very casual and my voice couldn't fill the entire space, but once I started I noticed a little 'audience' start to build up around the piano. It wasn't much but people seemed to enjoy just a little bit of live music. One young little girl even wanted to sit beside me as I played and sang. The best part? My family was able to hear it well enough to enjoy this very last-minute short 'performance'.
A great reprieve from a gloomy kind of atmosphere.
Love My Musical Life.
