I was able to put up a new video on YouTube today!!
I finally did a cover of Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" - except it is a bit different.
Instead of doing a straight cover, I decided to try something new.
It's not exactly an 'answer' song with lyrics as a responding follow up, but more of the same song from her perspective.
I wanted to write it as if it were the exact same moments, but the thoughts going through her head, and how their thoughts are so in sync - showing how perfect they really are for each other.
This meant that most of the lyrics are exactly the same, I just tweaked a few for a different perspective. Plus, I thought it fit with the piano cover.
Ed Sheeran's song, but from the thoughts of the girl he is singing to.
I had so much fun recording it and trying to find the lines that I could change without ruining the integrity of the song. I hope you will all enjoy it as a simply different interpretation.
He is the master of love songs!!
This song was requested by both Jenni and Jocelyn and I was thrilled to do a slightly changed cover of such a beloved tune.

I started writing out his song lyrics and chords last night, did a quick transpose so that it fit my voice better, and then decided to rework some of the lyrics. I tried several lines/terms here and there, trying to match the syllables, form, and even trying to match the phonetic rhymes as much as possible.
I practiced a bit, managed to drag my keyboard into the kitchen/living area this afternoon, and got ready. I put on a simple dress, simple makeup, and did a quick dry-hairspray of my hair. (Frankly I was feeling too ill to do anything elaborate with my overall look).
Then I started recording. I set my phone up on the counter, did a few takes to check sound and video framing, then started with a few quick takes. It took me several. Usually, if you memorize piano chords, lyrics, and then decide to change lyrics, it takes a while to properly memorize it all well enough to perform it.
When I stare at the camera, even if I have the lyrics right in front of me, I can make some mistakes. Each mistake means a brand new take.
All said and done it took about half an hour - and even though I cursed whenever I screwed up a chord or a line and had to start over - I still loved every minute of it.
Even though I never believe I have recorded a perfect video, I am relatively happy with this one.
Once I perform the cover of his song several times, there are points I would change and a couple of mistakes that will seem glaring to me - but I liked it enough to share it and that's the important part. :)
Once I found a take I was happy with, I unplugged and put some of my gear away, then settled into the social media aspect of it all (which takes a lot of different platforms, hashtags, tags, promotions and shares)... I still have not put hashtags on the YouTube video itself because that requires a computer and I am working primarily from my cell.
Maybe tomorrow!!
Either way - it was a fun afternoon working and promoting music. 🧡🎶💚
Thank you so much for listening, sharing, and subscribing.
I love My Musical Life!!💙🎶💙
P.S. Just a fun fact - did you know that the main chord progression is also the same in songs like Heart and Soul, Walking in Memphis, Santa Baby, and thousands of others. It is a super popular chord progression - but they all differ in melody which makes them all unique in their own way.
Love it!
